These dessert recipes for a trifle were added on March 30, 2005

English Style Trifle Recipes

  • 3 cups cubed sponge cake
  • 1/2 cup strawberry or raspberry jam
  • 2 cups custard sauce

    Place cake cubes in a glass serving bowl. Pour 1/4 cup of white wine over the cake, spoon jam over the cake, then pour the hot or cold custard over top. Serve cold with whipped cream.

    Custard sauce:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • pinch of salt

Scald milk over medium heat in a double boiler. Beat egg yolks with sugar and salt; add scalded milk gradually, stirring constantly. Place over boiling water and cook stirring constantly until the sauce is thickened and coats the spoon. Remove from heat, strain, and add vanilla.


Lemon Trifle Recipes

  • 1 egg, beaten
    • 1 cup sugar
    • juice and rind of 1 lemon
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 2 cups boiling water
    Beat egg until light; add sugar, juice, and the rind of a lemon. Add cornstarch, then boiling water, and cook until thickened. Pour over pieces of light cake or broken cookies. Cool.

    English Trifle Recipes

    • plain white cake mix
    • 5 tablespoons fruit juice
    • 1 cup fruit of choice
    • 1 pkg. Jello vanilla pudding
    • 1 pkg. whipping cream
    Use a glass bowl. Break cooked white cake into cubes on the bottom of the bowl. Pour fruit juice over the cake. Put a layer of fruit on. POour pudding over fruit. Put whipping cream on top. Sprinkle with a bit of fruit. Cover and let sit in the fridge overnight.

    Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle Recipes

    • 2 (250 g) pkg. of cream cheese
    • 1 cup sifted icing sugar
    • 1 cup sour cream (low fat)
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
    • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
    • 1 cup whipped cream
    • 4 tablespoons icing sugar
    • 1 angel food cake, torn into bite-size pieces
    • 5 cups thinly sliced strawberries
    • 3 tablespoons amaretto liqueur
    In a large bowl, beat together cream cheese and 1 cup icing sugar. Add sour cream, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and almond extract; set aside. In a small bowl, beat together whipped cream, the remaining teaspoon of vanilla, and 1 tablespoon of icing sugar. Fold into cream cheese mixture. Add cake pieces; set aside. Combine strawberries, remaining 3 tablespoons icing sugar, and liqueur. Layer in a large glass bowl, starting with strawberries, then add the cake mixture. continue layering, finishing with strawberries. Chill.

    The recipe is very sweet. Icing sugar can be halved for those who like something a little less sweet.

    This trifle recipe will serve 10.


    Trifle

    • 1 jelly roll
    • 1 (14-ounce) can of the fruit of choice
    • 1 pint Bird's custard (made)
    • 2 tablespoons Sherry
    • 1 (8 ounces) pkg. Jello, same flavor as fruit (prepared)
    • whipping cream
    Slice jelly roll. Place in the bottom of the bowl. Sprinkle sherry on the cake, and place fruit on top of the cake. Pour on jello and let set. Make custard. When jello is set, pour custard on top and let set. Just before serving, whip cream and put it on top of the custard.
