Taco Salad

Name: Shannon Jones from the United States submitted this recipe for Taco Salad on Feb 05, 2005.

Ingredients and Instructions:

  • 1 lb ground beef - cooked and seasoned for tacos
  • 1 bag Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Chopped lettuce (3/4 - 1 full head of iceberg)
  • Doritos chips (I prefer nacho cheese) or
  • Fritos are good too!
  • Western dressing

Mix all ingredients together and add the Western dressing until it's moist. Add a little at a time and taste test. You don't want to drench it.

Flavorful Casserole

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons salad oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 can (10 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can (10 ounces) tomato soup
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 cup ready-cut macaroni
  • seasoning

Brown meat in oil. Add the onions and celery and cook until tender. Mix in mushroom soup, tomato soup, water, chili powder, and seasoning. Cook macaroni in salted water. Drain and add to the meat mixture. Pour into a large casserole and bake at 350 degrees F. for 45 minutes.
This ground beef recipe serves 4 to 5 people.

Lazy Cabbage Rolls

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked rice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 large head of cabbage (shredded)
  • 1 can (10 ounces) tomato soup

Fry the beef, pork, and onions together until brown. Cover the rice with boiling water, add salt and pepper; then boil until the water is absorbed. Fry the cabbage until limp. Mix all ingredients together in a large casserole and cover with tomato soup. Cover and bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 hour.
This ground beef recipe will serve 6 to 8.

Quick Meat Ball Stroganoff

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon shortening
  • 1 can (10 ounces) mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Combine beef, egg, crumbs, 1/4 cup of water, salt, and pepper. Form into balls about the size of golf balls. Brown on all sides in the shortening. Drain off excess fat and push meatballs to one side of the pan. Add soup, 1/2 cup of water, ketchup, onions, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Mix well. Simmer for 5 minutes. Blend in sour cream and heat thoroughly. Serve over hot rice or noodles.
This ground beef recipe serves 4 to 5.

Dinner Casserole

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 package onion soup mix
  • 1 can (10 ounces) cream chicken soup
  • 1 can (10 ounces) mushrooms (cut fine)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked brown rice
  • 1/2 cup crumbled potato chips

Brown the hamburger and drain the fat. Place in a bowl, add onion soup and mix well. Add chicken soup, mushrooms, water, and rice. Mix well. Add to the casserole dish. Top with potato chips. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 hour.
This ground beef recipe serves 4 to 5.

Cabbage Rolls

  • 1 large cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup rice
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 5 slices of bacon

Remove the core from the whole head of the cabbage. Scald cabbage in boiling water. Remove a few leaves at a time as needed to prevent wilting. Cool before using. Wash rice in cold water and stir into two quarts of rapidly boiling salted water. Boil for 10 minutes and strain. Run cold water through the rice in a strainer. The rice will be half-cooked. Saute onion in butter until transparent. Combine onions with meat, egg, rice, and seasoning. Mix well. Spread each leaf with meat about 1/2 inch thick. Fold the two opposite sides and roll, starting with one of the opposite ends. Fasten with toothpicks. Place cabbage rolls in a baking dish and cover with 5 slices of bacon and roast for 2 hours at 300 degrees F. Baste from time to time, or - add one cup of water to tomato puree and simmer slowly for 2 hours. Watch closely and add more water, if necessary.
